A network of roads and bridges leading to a new Dubai mall is 45 per cent complete, officials said on Saturday.

Construction of the Dubai Hills Mall, one of the biggest in the emirate, is expected to finish by March 2020.

The Dh780 million project includes the building of 12 new bridges aimed at providing motorists with quicker, easier access to the site.

Once completed, shoppers will be able to reach the mall, developed by real estate giant, Emaar, via Downtown Dubai, Emirates Hills, Dubai Marina and Arabian Ranches.

"The project covers the construction of internal roads at Dubai Hills Estate to ease the movement of residents of Al Barsha South 1 and 2, and link them with new roads and bridges,” said Mattar Al Tayer, of Dubai Roads and Transport Authority.

“Works also include the installation of traffic signals, shifting of utility lines, and landscaping.”

Once open, Dubai Hills Mall is expected to become home to more than 650 retail outlets. It will also offer family entertainment venues including cinemas and a hypermarket.

The 12 bridges leading to the mall span a total of nearly four kilometres, some with four lanes in each direction.

“It is an integral feature of Dubai Hills Estate and a destination that complements the development’s coveted residential and commercial community,” said the UAE’s government news agency, Wam.
