The three-day trip has been planned to promote the US government's Women's Global Development and Prosperity Initiative, which Trump leads.

As she touched down in the capital, Trump wore a grey trouser suit with an embroidered jacket. The two-piece is by Moroccan designer Fadila El Gadi, who wrote on Instagram: "Proud that Ivanka Trump has chosen to wear my creations when visiting Morocco."

Princess Lalla Meryem also chose a trouser suit, opting for a rust orange two-piece.

It is expected that Trump will visit an olive grove on the outskirts of the capital today as part of her visit. She will also take part in a roundtable discussion on women's empowerment with some of the country's female leaders.

Also planned are meetings with Morocco's prime minister, foreign minister and royal family.
