The heads of around 30 of the world's top oil and gas companies met at the fourth Abu Dhabi CEO roundtable, and were welcomed by Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE's Armed Forces.
The roundtable event, which was held at Abu Dhabi National Oil Company's headquarters, focused on how best to use new technologies, people and partnerships to provide the energy the world needs for sustainable economic growth. The event was hosted by Adnoc's group chief executive, UAE Minister of State, Dr Sultan Al Jaber, on the eve of this year's Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference.
“The fourth industrial age is creating a paradigm shift in global growth and energy demand. The open and wide-ranging discussion, enabled by the roundtable, focused on the key role oil and gas will play, as an essential part of the broader energy mix, in enabling tomorrow’s global economy," said Dr Al Jaber.
“In particular, we discussed how our industry can continue to play a key role in meeting the rising demand for energy with fewer emissions, by adopting new technologies, empowering our people, operating sustainably and leveraging partnerships.”
Among the oil bosses in attendance were the chief executives of Saudi Aramco, Amin Nasser, Total's Patrick Pouyanné, BP's Bob Dudley, ENI's Claudi Descalzi, Inpex's Takayuki Ueda, CNPC's chairman Wang Yiin and Indian Oil's chairman Sanjiv Singh.
The heads of other major players in the industry, including Occidental, Lukoil, Cepsa, Mubadala Petroleum and Petrochemicals, Schlumberger and Azerbaijan's Socar, were also in attendance.
The roundtable was moderated by leading energy economist and Pulitzer-Prize winning author Dr Daniel Yergin, who is vice-chairman of IHS Markit.
“The roundtable provided an important opportunity to discuss the critical question of the contribution of the energy and petrochemicals industries to a sustainable energy future that meets the needs of a growing world," Dr Yergin said.
This year's Adipec event starts at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre on Monday and runs until Thursday.
