ABU DHABI // A motorist died after her car fell from the sixth floor of the Sheikh Khalifa Energy Complex early Sunday morning.

After the first inspection of the vehicle, Abu Dhabi Police said it appeared to have fallen while reversing. The motorist was a 54-year-old European woman.

Maj Saeed Al Dhahiri, head of the City Police Station, said that the operations room at Abu Dhabi Police received a call at 8am Sunday morning reporting that a vehicle had fallen from a car park in the capital.

He said patrols and ambulances rushed to the scene along with special-task police teams. The vehicle had fallen from the sixth floor of the car park while in reverse mode, leading to the death of the driver. Maj Al Dhahiri said that the police were still investigating.

Members of the public visited the scene afterwards and said that no one else was injured as the car plunged to the ground inside the complex.

“At around 8am, there were so many people here, according to pictures that are being circulated on social media. The motorist was the only one killed and there were no people standing around downstairs on the spot where the car fell,” said Nabil Al Nahari, 35, who was at a nearby hotel at the time of the incident.

“I was not at the place where the accident happened, but a member of my staff was there and he told me that the lady was reversing and parking and the car fell,” said another bystander.
