Dubai International departure delays due to suspected drone activity
Dubai Airports confirmed that there were delays and that they worked closely with authorities to minimise the inconvenience to customers
Dubai Airport departures experienced delays on Friday morning due to what was suspected to be unauthorised drone activity.
Following reports on social media about the incident, a spokesperson for Dubai Airport confirmed that flights were suspended briefly.
"Dubai Airports confirms that flight departures from Dubai International were suspended between 1013 hrs and 1045 hrs UAE local time due to suspected drone activity," a Dubai Airports spokesperson said.
"Dubai Airports has worked closely with the appropriate authorities to ensure the safety of airport operations is maintained at all times and to minimise any inconvenience to customers."
The delays caused brief disruption to morning departures, with the flight monitoring site Flightradar24 reporting a 52-minute average delay.
It was showing flights landing and departing Dubai International at 10:45am.
Drone users users cannot fly within 5 kilometres of an airport and those caught flying without a licence face fines of up to Dh20,000.
Recent reported drone sightings at London's Gatwick and Heathrow airports contributed to days of travel disruption in the UK.
