BERLIN // German police found a suspicious package in the mailroom of Chancellor Angela Merkel's office in Berlin today, a government spokesman said.
Ms Merkel was not in the building at the time.
"A suspicious package was found in the post office of the chancellery," the spokesman said.
"It can't be ruled out that the package contains explosives. The investigation is continuing.
"No one has been injured."
A Reuters photographer saw police tighten security measures outside the central Berlin office of Ms Merkel, who was out of the country at the time on a visit to Belgium.
