ABU DHBAI // Nearly 400,000 people tuned in to watch the UAE beat Iraq in the Gulf Cup final last week, a new record for television viewership in the country.
It beat the previous record held by the final episode of Arab Idol last year, according to Wam, the state news agency.
At the game's peak, more than 397,000 people were watching at home on the Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah sports channels, according to Tvview, the UAE's television audience measurement system.
Even more people were watching in cafes or other locations.
Across the duration of the whole match, an average of 264,000 people were watching.
