Ras Al Khaimah's Air Wing unit carried out 135 operations including 21 rescue missions in 2017.

Lt Col Saeed Al Yamahi, head of the RAK air wing department, said the missions included overseeing many events in the emirate with National Day celebrations among them.

“We carried out 21 rescue missions and participated in the National Day, Flag Day, the National Sports Day, orphan’s happiness initiative and humanitarian missions such as transferring patients along with training missions,” he said.

In November, ten hikers were rescued by the RAK police air wings after losing their way in the emirate's mountainous region.

Lt Col Al Yamahi said the department is always prepared to attend to emergencies with its five fully equipped helicopters.
