DUBAI // An all-night search-and-rescue operation for a swimmer believed missing in the sea off Jumeirah Beach Residence was called off this morning as a false alarm. A search began at 2am after a taxi driver alerted the emergency services of a female passenger who, for reasons unknown, he believed was going to attempt suicide. A helicopter and rescue boats were at the scene until around 10am when an investigation showed the woman was actually asleep at home. A police spokesman said they had successfully contacted friends of the woman and then called off the search.
