A student who stabbed his friend to death with a pair of scissors has been locked up for seven years.

The 26-year-old, from Pakistan, had invited the victim and another pal to his home in Um Al Sheif on August 5 of last year.

The pair remained alone in a room on the ground floor of the property after the other friend left about an hour later.

Violence broke out after the victim began "acting strangely" and said he wanted a fight, the defendant told police after his arrest.

A maid had heard screaming and found the Emirati victim bleeding heavily outside of the villa and alerted the defendant's uncle.

The maid, 39, said: “[The deceased] was outside the villa and I heard him screaming the defendant’s name but I didn't see the defendant. I felt scared, so I woke the uncle up and then locked myself in my room.”

An Emirati police lieutenant said officers found the victim outside bleeding and an ambulance rushed him to hospital, where he later died.
The officer said they apprehended the defendant two days later and during questioning, he said the victim was acting strangely and repeated that he wanted them to have a fight.

“He told us that the victim chased him around and then outside the house, so he locked the door to prevent him from coming back inside and he told us the victim tried to enter the villa again through the kitchen window,” said the officer, 34.

A police captain said that they found a blood trail from the villa's door all the way to where the victim finally fell unconscious outside the property.
The defendant denied a premeditated murder charge but was convicted.

He can appeal the sentence within two weeks.
