ABU DHABI // An Indian man who officials said arrived in the country 20 days ago was found hanged yesterday in a public toilet on a construction site. Police are investigating the death as an apparent suicide. The man, DR, is believed to have been between 25 and 27 years of age. He had been working for two days on the site, which is in Sheikh Khalifa Medical City. Emco, a Canada-based company that distributes a large variety of construction products, oversees the site.
"These types of suicides do happen from time to time," said Fahad al Jabri, a criminal investigator with the Abu Dhabi Police. Hasan Meeran, the site foreman, said that although he did not know DR personally, he knew of him as the "new guy". Talal Abbas, the director of public relations at Emco, said the news of the death was "very upsetting, depressing." DR was found at around 1pm by KM, a 30-year-old Indian man who has been a construction worker in the capital for two years. KM noticed a pair of shoes on the floor beneath a closed bathroom stall door and notifed Mr Meeran, who phoned the police when DR did not respond to verbal calls. DR's body was in the stall.
