Labourer struck by lightning while working on a roof
Man dies after being struck by lightning in Al Ain
A labourer has been killed after being struck by lightning while he was working on the roof of a homestead in Al Ain.
Emergency services rushed to the homestead after the lightning strike on Friday night, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The strike then ignited a fire at the homestead, Abu Dhabi Police said.
Col Mohammed Al Ansari, director general of Abu Dhabi Civil Defence, said the sound of the lightning strike "was similar to a gas cylinder explosion".
He said firefighters and a team from the rescue department were sent to the scene, but found the worker was already dead, and that the lighting strike had damaged the homestead.
The deceased man was sent to a nearby hospital.
