A man has been cleared of being responsible for the death of his friend, who died of an accidental heroin overdose.
Dubai Criminal Court acquitted the Emirati accused on September 28 last year, but prosecutors appealed.
They said that in October 2016 police received a report of a body found behind a building in Al Satwa.
"We rushed to the scene and found the body next to a car. We then cordoned off the area to preserve evidence for forensic experts," said a police officer.
He said drug tablets, needles and other items were found scattered around the body of the Emirati man.
"All evidence was collected and packed to be sent to the criminal lab," the officer said.
Initial investigations found the man's death was caused by an overdose of heroin, and it was recorded as a suicide.
But prosecutors insisted the death was criminal and referred the defendant to court on a charge of facilitating heroin consumption that led to death.
They told the court DNA found on the same needle the deceased used belonged to the unemployed accused, 36.
He was cleared due to a lack of evidence proving he provided the heroin to his friend.
