ABU DHABI // Refurbishment work is soon to start on homes in Al Reef to replace kitchen cupboards residents said were falling off walls.

In February, The National reported incidents where cabinets and sinks had collapsed in some properties in the housing development near Abu Dhabi International Airport. One woman reported that the cupboard had fallen on her and injured her.

Manazel, the management company for Al Reef, has sent a letter to residents saying repair work would begin next week in properties where a problem had been reported.

Haipham Taufeeq, the community manager for Al Reef, said: “Works will commence from Sunday, June 7 with 20 appointments each day.”

One resident, Savera Nabeel, who owns a five-bedroom villa in the community, said while she had not had problems with her kitchen cabinets, there had been other issues.

These included broken floor tiles, faulty air-conditioning and mould on the walls.
