DUBAI // A man who threatened to chop off the head and fingers of a woman’s daughter was sentenced in absentia to six months at the Criminal Court on Tuesday.

AB, a 21-year-old unemployed man from the Comoros Islands, arrived at the woman’s home at about 3am on April 30 and knocked on the door. When there was no answer he started screaming at Emirati housewife FK, 48, and her 21-year-old daughter to open up, but they refused.

It was said in court that the man was a regular at their home but records did not elaborate on the nature of the relationship he had with the women.

FK said in records that AB started asking why she lodged a complaint against him with police.

“He then told me that because I lodged a complaint against him, he will cut my daughter’s head and fingers,” said FK.

No details of the woman’s original complaint were given.

The man did not appear in court to enter a plea last September and, again, he was not present on Tuesday morning to hear the verdict, so was sentenced in absentia.
