Firefighters in Ajman battled a blaze that gutted six warehouses for more than an hour on Wednesday morning.

Officers from three civil defence stations in the emirate and others from Sharjah's civil defence department were called in at just after 2am as fire engulfed a host of low-rise buildings in the New Industrial area.

The blaze sent thick clouds of dark smoke billowing into the sky.

The fire was extinguished at about 3.30am. No casualties were reported.

Brig Gen Mohammed Ali Jumeirah, deputy director of Ajman Civil Defence, and head of its stations, said the swift response of the crew prevented the fire from spreading.

“It is essential that industrial establishments, factories and warehouses are committed to prevention and safety standards set by the civil defence department,” said Brig Gen Jumeirah.

He urged establishment owners to carry out regular safety checks.
