A fire broke out in a building in Dubai on Saturday morning.

Thick black smoke billowed across the sky, affecting visibility in the area.

No one was injured in the blaze, which took hold in a warehouse that housed a contracting company and a garage in Umm Ramool.

A spokesman for Dubai Civil Defence said it received a call about the fire around 8.50am.

"Firefighters from Al Rashidiya Civil Defence Centre were dispatched and arrived within seven minutes," he said.

"Firefighters from Al Qusais, Al Karamah, and port Saed civil defence centres helped put out the fire by 10.36am. No injuries were reported."

The Terminal 2 building of Dubai International Airport can be seen in the background in some of the images, although Twitter users said it was some distance from the fire.

Twitter users shared videos of the large cloud of dark smoke.

In 2016, a massive fire ripped through a complex in Umm Ramool, destroying at least 15 shops, after starting in a mechanical workshop.
