Hundreds of men’s salons in Abu Dhabi have been inspected by the Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport over the past three days.

Of the 235 salons visited in Mussaffah, DMAT issued 35 warnings after spotting several accounts of malpractice including the improper use of sterilisers and incorrectly stored equipment.

The inspections aimed to improve health, safety and hygiene standards at barber shops, with inspectors also briefing salon workers on the importance of sterilisers and disease-prevention.

Inspectors also called on salon owners to provide safety and security measures such as first aid kits and fire extinguishers.

The offending shops were given a week to remove makeshift washstands and comply with the law.
