ABU DHABI // The Minister of Environment and Water has issued regulations for fishing. The decision, from Rashed Ahmed bin Fahed, aims to protect and develop the UAE’s fisheries, regulate the exploitation of fish resources and decrease fishing activities. The types of fish that can be fished, permitted fishing periods and types of nets also fall under the decree, which covers licensed fishermen only. The decision also bans the use of gargour - fishing boxes that trap smaller fish - and the use of winches on fishing boats to haul up fishing nets
