A hundred fishermen have been caught by Dubai Municipality for breaching fishing rules and catching fish that are too small, as well as other marine creatures. Khalid Suletine, head of the emergency office at the municipality’s environment department, said fishermen were at beaches and creeks in the dark to “mindlessly comb in marine creatures until daybreak”. He called for heavier fines, currently anywhere between Dh100 and Dh500, and said inspections intensified after sunset. Areas such as Maktoum Bridge and Creek Park are popular targets, he added.
