SHARJAH// A fire broke out in the gold souk near Buhairah Corniche in Sharjah on Saturday evening. 
The fire in the gold souk, which is part of a central market, was reported to Sharjah Civil Defence at 6:47pm. 
Motorists and shoppers saw smoke coming from the gold souk. 
Witnesses said that police and civil defence brought the blaze under control quickly while remaining shoppers inside the souk were led to safety. 
Abdulrahman Al Mualla, a Pakistani shopper who was inside the souk when the incident took place, said: "We saw smoke coming out from one of the shops in the souk.
"Everyone was rushing outside the market."
Sharjah Civil Defence confirmed the incident and said it was a minor fire. 
The fire was extinguished before 7pm, according to eyewitnesses. 
"The fire started from an air conditioner in the electrical room at the souk and contained quickly," Col Sami Khamis Al Naqbi, director of Sharjah Civil Defence, said. 
No casualties or injuries were reported, said Col Al Naqbi.
