SHARJAH// A fire broke out in the gold souk near Buhairah Corniche in Sharjah on Saturday evening.

The fire in the gold souk, which is part of a central market, was reported to Sharjah Civil Defence at 6:47pm.

Motorists and shoppers saw smoke coming from the gold souk.

Witnesses said that police and civil defence brought the blaze under control quickly while remaining shoppers inside the souk were led to safety.

"Everyone was rushing outside the market."
