ABU DHABI // Entry has opened for Zayed University graduates hoping to win a Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan Higher Education Grant to help them pursue postgraduate study.
Launched yesterday by the Emirates Foundation for Youth Development, the grant aims to support selected graduates from the Abu Dhabi and Dubai campuses on masters and doctoral degrees.
Winners can study at universities in the UAE or overseas in areas such as tourism, education, science, health care, engineering and cultural studies. The grants cover full tuition fees, as well as travel and living allowances for those studying abroad. Mohanna Al Muhairi, chief operating officer at the Emirates Foundation, said they were intended to nurture talented and creative Emiratis, "enabling students who wish to pursue further education".
Dr Jeffrey Belnap, associate provost for academic affairs at Zayed University, said the scholarships would go to students who were exceptional, academically and otherwise. "Their maturity and growth is reflected in their statement of purpose and through their participation in extracurricular community or university activities," he said.
The five-year programme began in May 2011, and has already supported 32 graduates.
Students must be 21 or older and have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 and an IELTS English score of 6.0 or equivalent. Applications can be made at emiratesfoundation.ae.
