Dubai police chief heads new crisis and management department

The department will review catastrophic situations in the emirate and ensure there are contingency plans in case of disasters.

Lt Gen Dahi Khalfan, the chief of Dubai Police, yesterday chaired a meeting of Dubai's newly established crisis and disaster management department.

Those attending reviewed Dubai's strategy in dealing with "contingencies and critical situations", according to a Dubai Police spokesman.

In 2006, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, in his capacity as Ruler of Dubai, issued a decree establishing a department that would devise contingency plans and drills to ensure authorities were well-coordinated and prepared to deal with any disaster.
