DUBAI // A landlord who threatened to kill her tenant and burn down the villa she was living in has been fined Dh5,000.
NA, 48, an Emirati journalist, sobbed as she denied making the threats in an effort to force her compatriot HH, 35, out.
“I didn’t, how could I if she had already evacuated the place before the date of the incident,” she said.
The tenant told the Criminal Court that at 7pm on August 13 this year she was at the villa in Mirdiff when the door bell rang.
“I opened the door and saw the landlord inside her car. She was screaming at me saying that if I didn’t get out of the villa and hand her the keys she would kill me,” recalled the tenant.
“I told her there is the rule of law in this country but she replied: ‘let the law help you then’.”
The tenant reported the landlord to Rashidiya Police station.
