DUBAI // A man convicted of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old boy in September was sentenced this morning to three years in prison by the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance.

QM, 32, a labourer from Bangladesh lured the victim into a hotel room in Dubai and molested him, records show.

According to records, QM met the boy four days after Eid Al Fitr in the Mega Mall in Sharjah, where the boy lives, and offered him Dh300 if he accompanied him to a hotel in Bur Dubai.

The boy told prosecutors he went with the defendant in a taxi to a hotel room where the man sexually assaulted him. He told prosecutors QM took off his clothes, then rubbed him inappropriately.

The boy told his father he was staying at a friends house. His father said the boy called him from a strange number and told him he would return shortly, court records said.

The father added that when his son did not return, he called the number and a taxi driver told him he had driven his son and an adult man to Dubai, records stated.

During investigations, QM denied the charges but the boy told investigators that while the defendant was naked he noticed scars on his left shoulder, records show.

A forensic report confirmed the scars as described by the victim.

QM will be deported after serving his prison term.
