Prosecution appeal of UAE cancer doctor acquittal delayed

ABU DHABI // The prosecution appeal against the acquittal of Doctor Cyril Karabus was today delayed at the first hearing.
The case has been adjourned until April 23 as no medical translator was present at the Appeals Court today.
The South African doctor had been cleared by the Criminal Court last month for the decade-old manslaughter charge over the death of a three-year-old Yemeni girl.
In an unusual twist, public prosecutors appealed against the Criminal Court's ruling, despite the Higher Committee for Medical Liability coming to the conclusion that Dr Karabus did not play a part in the girl's death.
The medical translator had been requested by Dr Karabus' defence team but did not show in court today.
The reason why prosecutors have appealed the acquittal was not mentioned.
