Man jailed for threat to kill witness

A man who threatened to kill a witness to his attempted robbery has been sentenced to six months in prison.

DUBAI // A man who threatened to kill a witness to his attempted robbery was today sentenced to six months in prison.

MS and an accomplice dragged an Emirati woman from her parked car as her children watched on in Sharjah in attempt to rob her last March. However, BM, a 28-year-old female manager from Pakistan, rushed to the woman's rescue and scared the men off.

Shortly before MS was to stand trial over the incident, BM told police that she had received calls and text messages threatening that she would be killed if she testified.

"I know all about you but you don't know how dangerous I am, I will kill you if you went to court," one of the text messages said.

The Emirati assault victim testified that BM called her in April and told her she was scared to testify because MS had threatened her.

The prison term, handed down by the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance, will be followed by deportation.
