DUBAI // A driver accused of raping a woman in her office after tying her up with her own sari failed to appear in court this morning.
The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance was told the Pakistani JA, 43, attacked her on March 3 after delivering documents to her office at a desalination company. He was charged with rape and assault after a forensic report confirmed the attack.
The victim said JA arrived in her office about 4.30pm on the day of the incident, as she was getting ready to leave. She said she noticed he was sad and asked him why. He told her it was his last day at the work and he would love to kiss her.
Prosecutors say JA stopped her from leaving the office knocked her phone out of her hand when she tried to call her husband. She screamed and he covered her mouth with his hand, then bound and gagged her with her sari, she testified.
Records say he carried her to another office, threw her onto a desk and raped her.
After the attack, she fled, called her husband and went to Jebel Ali police station, where she met her husband and reported the rape, prosecutors said.
JA came willingly to the police station and said that he had an affair with her and that the sex was consensual.
The next hearing was scheduled for July 6.
