ABU DHABI // The relatives of an "insane" Egyptian who stabbed a man to death in his bed and then killed a witness in court have been ordered pay Dh400,000 blood money on his behalf.
The killer was sentenced to psychiatric treatment by an appeals court on Wednesday, after the dead men's relatives gave up their right to vengeance and requested blood money.
BAM murdered two Nepalese men. One, LK, had filed a lawsuit in Al Dhafra court alleging BAM had caused permanent injury to one of his eyes during a fight.
While out on bail, BAM murdered LK in his room and then killed another man in court who was testifying on behalf of LK.
A medical report showed BAM suffered hallucinations and heard voices.
His claim that he killed the men because they were infidels was deemed not logical because the men were involved in a lawsuit against him.
The Court of Cassation returned the case to the Court of Appeals to be tried by a different panel.
In a previous hearing, BAM said: "I'm an Arab Muslim and in an Arab Muslim country. Those infidels are killing Muslims all around the world."
The appeals judge said: "You should take your right by law, and not go around killing people."
The judge added it was never part of Islamic law to randomly kill people because of their beliefs or to take revenge.
