ABU DHABI // Two men who tried to rape a woman, prompting her to jump from their moving car, have been sentenced to prison.
The Criminal Court sentenced AA, an Emirati, to 10 years on charges of impersonating a policeman, kidnapping, and attempted rape. It cleared him of theft.
The court sentenced YA, also Emirati, to seven-and-a-half years - three for assault, four for consuming drugs and six months for stealing the woman's handbag. It cleared him of kidnap and impersonating a public officer.
The pair had driven up to the Moroccan woman at the Abu Dhabi bus station and offered her a lift to Al Ain.
She accepted their offer, believing them to be police officers. When the car reached Jebel Hafeet the two men attacked her and she threw herself from the car to escape.
