DUBAI // A young waiter who got drunk and wrote his friends' names on a Government-owned building was sentenced to three months, a court ruled this morning.

The Dubai Court of Misdemeanours ordered the 25-year-old Indian waiter FK to be deported after his sentence. Judge Mohammed Ahmed Shuaib also ordered him to pay Dh2,000 for illegal drinking and for covering wall repair costs.

He was charged with illegal drinking and damaging property, and confessed during the investigation.

FK said he came to the country about a year ago and worked for an ice cream restaurant. About 2.30am on April 27, he consumed several bottles of beer and reminisced about his friends back home.

He said he went downstairs to the wall of his accommodation in Al Karama area and painted the names of two of his friends before a police patrol spotted him.

The Al Rafaa police officers stopped FK and referred him to the forensics lab after they noticed he had been drinking.
