A man suspected of drug offences led police on a chase from Dubai to Ras Al Khaimah with a three-month-old baby on board, a court heard.

The 28-year-old Emirati allegedly sped off in his Nissan Maxima when he spotted a police patrol arriving at his home in Oud Al Mutaina, Dubai, at 8.50am on August 15 of last year.

Officers were responding to information that the man was in possession of drugs.

Dubai Criminal Court heard that the motorist jumped a red light with police in pursuit, with forces in Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Ras Al Khaikmah alerted as he continued his 'reckless' journey across the Emirates.

“He was driving recklessly on internal and main roads and was endangering lives of other road users,” said a police officer in court records.

The accused was eventually captured in Ras Al Khaimah, but only after allegedly colliding with another car as he tried to make his escape.

“His car was forced to come to a complete stop but when officers tried to take him out of the car, he was fierce and resisted arrest,” stated another police officer.

When the man was eventually subdued, police found two women and a young baby inside, along with methamphetamine, hash, and heroin.

Police said the man was found to be under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident.

He was charged with resisting arrest, possessing and consuming drugs and driving under the influence of drugs at court.

The defendant denied all charges.

The next hearing is set to take place on April 3.
