DUBAI // A salesman who threatened to decapitate a man over a debt of US$200 has had his sentence suspended.
A O, 46, from Tajikistan was handed a three-month jail term by the Dubai Criminal Court last month.
As he was not present during the first trial, he was given a retrial.
Yesterday morning the court suspended his prison sentence. The court heard that on October 6 of 2012, A O, came into the shop where R P, 30, from Russia, was working.
A O asked for $200 in return for promoting the shop and bringing in customers, but R P refused to pay.
“He came back with two other men and said if I didn’t pay him he will cut off my head,” said R P.
R P’s mother testified that she knew the defendant was part of a criminal gang that embezzled shop owners.
“I previously filed a complaint against him,” said the mother.
