Al Ain is searching for archaeological artefacts around the old livestock market, Souq Al Mawashi, before it is removed.
The market is located in an old part of the city, close to Al Ain National Museum – a significant heritage site. This increases the chances of finding historical artefacts, said Ahmed Rashid Neyadi, head of tenders and contracts at Al Ain Municipality.
The municipality plans to revive the old market area as an urban and tourist area.
The livestock market was moved to the outskirts of the city in 2012.
