The New South Wales Waratahs moved to the top of the Super 14 table after a 15-11 victory over the Queensland Reds yesterday. Timana Tahu scored the decisive try 15 minutes from time. Lachlan Turner tackled Peter Hynes and the ball fell into the substitute's hands before he ran 40 metres unopposed to score. "We didn't play particularly well, but we got away with the win," said Waratahs' captain Phil Waugh.
The Waikato Chiefs got their first win of the season with a 31-13 win over Western Force. The Chiefs captain Liam Messam said: "We finally clicked and [first try scorer] Lelia Masaga was fantastic. He lifted our energy levels." There are four more games today. The Pretoria Bulls, who have scored 108 points in their first three games, are chasing their fourth straight win against the Cape Town Stormers.
The Bloemfontein Cheetahs have made 10 changes to their team as they go in search of their first win of the season at the Wellington Hurricanes. The Auckland Blues face the Natal Sharks, who are unbeaten, while the Otago Highlanders play the Canterbury Crusaders. In England, there are four matches in the Guinness Premiership, with leaders Gloucester visiting third-place Leicester. And there are three games in the Super League, where Wigan face winless Bradford.
