Japan’s dream run in their home Rugby World Cup ended with a quarter-final exit, as the sport’s heavy hitters started to show they mean business this weekend.
The four semi-finalists have won six of the eight previous World Cups between them, with Wales the only side left who have yet to lift the Webb Ellis Cup.
Our selection of the standout players from the quarter-finals has five Englishmen, four apiece from South Africa and New Zealand, as well as two from a Wales side who were below their best in beating France.
