Rally Abu Dhabi has been placed on the provisional World Rally Championship (WRC) calendar for next year.
Twelve countries are included in the schedule, which has to be approved first by the World Rally Commission then the World Motorsport Council in June. If Abu Dhabi is added to the calendar it will be the only city in the world with Formula One and WRC events.
Mubarak al Muhairi, the Director General of Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), said: "Upon entering the world of rally in 2007, ADTA made no secret of its intent to secure Abu Dhabi a round in the FIA World Rally Championship. The authority's commitment … has never wavered and a provisional place on the 2012 calendar represents the culmination of three-and-a-half years of hard work."
