Lennon is flying again

Tottenham's gifted but often underachieving winger, Aaron Lennon, scored twice in their 4-0 demolition of Middlesbrough on Wednesday night.

LONDON // Tottenham's gifted but often underachieving winger, Aaron Lennon, scored twice in their 4-0 demolition of Middlesbrough on Wednesday night and is now forcing his way into Fabio Capello's England plans, according to Harry Redknapp. Capello was at White Hart Lane last night to watch Lennon's terrific display, three days after seeing him test Manchester United full-back Patrice Evra during the Carling Cup final on Sunday.

Lennon, 21, has not played for his country in nearly two years but the Spurs manager Redknapp said: "He must have a good chance of getting in the next squad if he plays like he is in the moment. The little fella is flying at the moment. "Aaron is in fantastic form and you felt something would happen every time he got the ball. He's learning the game, he's only a kid. "He's got all the equipment. I can see him taking things in, he needs people to work with him and work on his game - and he is responding. His final ball is still the thing he needs to improve on but it's certainly getting better.

"He was tired on Sunday but his little legs were still going." Boro's manager, Gareth Southgate, was upset at his players failing to build on their 2-0 win over Liverpool on Saturday. "We came here in good spirits," he said. "Were we too buoyant? We certainly had belief. It was a big blow but it's about how we respond." The Chelsea and England left-back Ashley Cole, 28, was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly in the early hours of yesterday morning in London. He was taken to a central London police station and issued a fixed penalty notice before being released.

Victor Anichebe has been ruled out for the remainder of the season by his Everton manager David Moyes. The youngster has not played since being on the wrong end of a two-footed tackle by Newcastle's Kevin Nolan during the match at St James' Park on Feb 22. "It's a blow for the boy as he'd just got back into the team," Moyes told www.evertonfc.com. * With agencies
