'National Day is a celebration for everyone in the UAE," Sultan Al Muhairi, general coordinator of the 41st National Day celebrations at Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority, told The National this week. And starting today, the UAE will have its party hat on.
Could this National Day weekend possibly be more action packed? From a sailing regatta on the Corniche and fireworks over it, to car parades, music concerts and even a date festival, the list of activities on offer as the UAE turns 41 means that the toughest challenge will be deciding what to skip. Even the skies are co-operating to bring us something unique - forecasts call for rain, a welcome treat.
The next few days will be filled with fun, but underpinning the activities will be a pride and sense of patriotism everyone in the Emirates - Emirati and expatriates - can embrace. In just four short decades this slice of Arabia has become a regional model for tolerance and cooperation. Indeed, National Day is "for everyone".
