For pet owners, the prospect of puppy Pilates sessions – now available in Dubai – will appeal. All young pups, small and medium dogs are welcome to join their owners at the flexibility-building workout.

Organisers describe it as a “fun way to keep your pet fit and active during the summer months”, in a “dynamic, rolling, stretching and often playful” session.

The hour-long lesson that took place last week saw owners stretch with their pets, while a few of the good boys and girls saw it more as an opportunity to run around with the other pups. For human attendees, it was an opportunity to bond with their pooches and fellow pet owners.

The social strengthening session is taught by Pilates instructor Kirsty MacPherson-Wright and run by The Animal Agency in conjunction with Hill's Pet Nutrition. "I think puppy Pilates is quite unique," MacPherson-Wright tells The National. "There are lots of other yoga sensations hitting YouTube, [but] those classes tend to have the animals roaming around as the participants do the movements."

The free session is called The Science of Happy Puppy Pilates Class, and takes place at Dubai’s Dogwalk, Al Quoz. Sessions are run ad hoc, but six more are set to run this year, with the next one taking place in September. The Animal Agency has also run puppy Pilates classes outdoors at Reform Social and Grill in Dubai in the past.

Once they're on, all you have to do is let them know you're coming and make sure you are able to supply a copy of the dog's vaccination book ahead of the event.
