The beauty spy: Sparkling for Christmas

You won't see her, but she's there, in the salons, spas and shops on sparkling for Christmas.

Christmas is an excuse to do many things. It is an excuse to eat far too much. It is an excuse (or possibly a compelling reason) to contact relatives you have avoided all year. It is also an excuse to dress up; the outfit you are happy to be seen in on Christmas Day does not necessarily make an appearance at any other time of the year. Women who normally live in beige are wearing bright red, even if it’s only their matching Father Christmas-themed underwear.

This year I plan to find my inner bling goddess and really go for it, but it won't just be my clothes that are sparkling. No, this year I plan to compete with the Christmas tree.

I am starting with my body. This will be covered (and we're talking head to toe) with Nuxe Huile Prodigeuse. Not only is it incredibly moisturising, but also it makes you glitter like a glow worm. I love the silky feel of it. In fact you can even put it in your hair – it makes it greasy but also very shiny.

My hair, however, will be sprayed with its very own product, the Miriam Quevedo Sublime Gold spray. I have written about this before, but it fits in perfectly with my Christmas-y theme. This spray not only conditions your hair, but makes it look like there are a thousand specs of gold dust in it. One whiff of this and your inner bling is well and truly out.

Now for the make-up. I have often thought that were I ever to become a big star I would wear exclusively Dior make-up.

Dior is also the brand favoured by the bling set and so the perfect choice for my Christmas look. In fact, Dior was pronounced bling many years ago by the most famous fashion guru of all, Coco Chanel. "I adore you," she told him. "But you dress your women like armchairs."

As luck would have it, Dior has come out with a darling little black minaudière (clutch purse) in the Dior houndstooth pattern, which is perfect for the handbag and contains everything a girl could possibly need to look her shimmering, shining best. There are three eye shadows and two lip glosses inside, as well as a mirror and a make-up brush.

My favourite eye shadow is, of course, the gold. I mean to dazzle, to shine, to give the angel at the top of the Christmas tree a run for her money. I am still deciding what to wear but you can rest assured that whatever outfit I go for, my whole being will be glowing beneath it.

Merry Christmas!
