Hiring an abra is a cool idea

Most of us know that you can ride an abra across the creek in Dubai for Dh1 but did you know that you can also rent the water taxis through the RTA for an hour, a day or even a month? Well you can, and if you have the dosh and want to share the authentic transport time with visitors from abroad, it is a cool option. An hourly rental of the wooden abras, which can carry up to 20 people at a time, costs Dh580 per hour, while a day will set you back Dh5,100 and a month costs a whopping Dh151,800. How cool though? Set the wheels in motion post summer season

This weekend's Eid holiday is the final break before it's back to work and back to the grindstone for those of us who have been away for the summer. With this in mind, we are loving that Dubai-based gym Define is offering us ways to transition back into the day-to-day school run/work schedule. The team at Define is suggesting four key health practices to will help get us back into things - turn up the knob, exert energy and get active; drink more water; balance your snacking, and get more zzz's. Their rev cycle classes and other body and mind classes will help you get started, so check them out at www.dubai.definebody.com and start the school year off right.

Check out glamorous new night at Fairmont Dubai

There’s a new night at Bistrot Bagatelle where French glamour, gastronomy and music all come together. The restaurant, located inside Dubai’s Fairmont Hotel and has locations in various party hotspots including New York, Miami and Ibiza, recently launched Le Mardi C’est Permis. Roughly translated to ‘Everything is Allowed’ on Tuesdays. The weekly event is split into two parts - the first is the dining experience where you can tuck into a menu of French classics including tartare de boeuf, salad landaise, gnocchi à la Parisienne, and loup de mer. Whatever you do, don’t miss out on ordering the pizza à la truffe noire (pictured). With black truffle purée, fior di latte (mozzarella made from cow’s milk) and winter truffle perfectly baked on top of a soft pizza, it is simply one of the best pizzas around. Once the appetite is satiated, it will be time to burn off those calories with the in-house spinner DJ Starks playing a selection of French modern hits and standards. Look out for the waiters who, on certain numbers, jump on tables and dance along with the crowd. Every Tuesday from 8pm. For details email reservation@bistrotbagatelledubai.com
