It can be bewildering keeping up with the endless number of new bags that are launched every season, each calling itself the latest must-have. Trying to figure out which will go the distance and is worth investing in is hard work. Most are just very nice bags, lacking any true longevity. However, occasionally, one pops up that truly does seem to be a bit different and makes for a worthy collectible.

Enter the Origami bag by Spanish label Purificación García, which is displaying all the staying power of truly good design.

Made from sheep leather, the bag is named for the art of Japanese paper-folding, and is cleverly constructed to echo the geometric form. Making leather behave like paper is no mean feat, but Purificación García seems to have mastered it. Soft and supple, the Origami bag has a distinctive shape and, unlike many bags, still looks good when half-empty.

Spring/summer 2017 sees a new array of colours from the brand, including muted pink and off-white, as well as rather jaunty shades of fuchsia, teal and orange. Will this really be a design classic? That is always hard to predict, but it is really rather beautiful.
