37 of the best Oscars dresses of all time
From Angelina Jolie's famous thigh-high slit to Halle Berry's show-stopping Elie Saab gown, we take a look at some of the Academy Awards' most memorable fashion moments
When it comes to red carpet events, it doesn’t get more glamorous than the Oscars.
Taking place each February in Los Angeles, the Academy Awards bring together Hollywood’s finest, as they gather to celebrate the best of the big screen.
Some of the most memorable fashion moments of all time have happened throughout the award ceremony’s 92-year history, from Angelina Jolie’s right leg to Halle Berry becoming the first black woman to win a best actress award in a stunning sheer Elie Saab mesh dress.
The Oscars red carpet has also been a great showcase for Arab designers over the years, from Priyanka Chopra in a strapless sheer gown by Zuhair Murad in 2006, to Lady Gaga in a couture Azzedine Alaia gown for the 2015 ceremony.

The 2020 awards will be happening on Sunday, February 9, wrapping up a busy awards season. Dark comic book story Joker leads nominations, with 11 Oscar nods, including best picture. It will compete for the top prize with Ford v Ferrari, The Irishman, Jojo Rabbit, Little Women, Marriage Story, 1917, Once Upon a Time ... in Hollywood, and South Korean movie Parasite.
Olivia Colman, Rami Malek, Regina King and Mahershala Ali have all been confirmed to present at the 92nd Academy Awards, as organisers have once again opted to eschew a host for a series of A-list presenters.
The Oscars will be shown on OSN Movies in HD, but the bad news for us in the region is that, while the red carpet coverage starts at 5pm Pacific Time (PT) in the US, we’ll be crawling out of bed at 5am. So, if you want to catch the stars as they arrive to the ceremony, showing off their suits and gowns to photographers, you’ll have to set an early alarm.
