A Set on about 109 hectacres, Acorn Farm in Camden, South Carolina, offers an upmarket feel to the country estate lifestyle.

Priced at US$6.9 million, the property is inspired by the designs of architect Frank Lloyd Wright - a leader in the Prairie School movement in architecture, which seamlessly merged structures with the surrounding environment.

This style of architecture emerged in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and used handcrafted materials to break away from the mechanised trend.

A one kilometre driveway through an iron gate leads past the gardens to the main house of the estate, which is listed on the Christie's website by its address, 1626 Sumter Highway. Wright's influence is seen in the hipped exterior roof, overhanging eaves, horizontal lines and clustered windows.

Inside, the brown floor moulding and Brazilian cherry floors are matched by reclaimed long leaf heart pine wood. A grand staircase opens into a dining room with high windows and double-height ceilings. The ground floor master suite has views of the lake and features two dressing rooms and two baths.

The main kitchen comes with a breakfast bar and a professional cooking range.

Two pantries, a silver wardrobe, an en suite bedroom, a laundry room that can double up as a mudroom to store shoes, and sunroom complete this floor. The upper level offers three bedrooms, a sitting room and its own kitchen. The largest bedroom on this floor has a private balcony. The basement, too, has its own bathroom along with a home theatre, gym and pool table. Tired of stairs? Take the wood-panelled lift to travel the three floors.

A barn with an office, a kitchen, two full baths and a walk-in refrigerator lie almost 1km from the main house. A chicken coop and a quail house behind the barn add the rural feel.
