'Footsteps of Thesiger' is a documentary about the adventurer Adrian Hayes retracing the steps of Sir Wilfred Thesiger trekking from Oman to Abu Dhabi city.

On October 31 2011, Adrian Hayes, his two Bedu companions and a caravan of up to seven camels set out on a 1200km trek across the Empty Quarter, a journey mapped by Wilfred Thesiger in two crossings in the 1940s.

Adrian approached the journey with the same attitude and equipment as Thesiger did more than 60 years ago, wearing traditional dress, subsisting mainly on food carried with him and the hospitality of those he and his companions may meet along the route and navigating by compass and stars.

Along the way Adrian recounted stories and tales from Thesiger’s memoirs, bringing to life one of the most extraordinary explorers of a bygone era. As well, Adrian and his companions witnessed the Empty Quarter of today and showing how it has changed since Thesiger’s time.
