Toshi Reagon has announced an extra Abu Dhabi concert following overwhelming public demand.

The American singer-songwriter will perform an additional night at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) on Friday September 5, after dates on Wednesday and Thursday (September 3-4) both sold out.

Tickets for the new date, which starts at 5pm, go on sale from the university's website at 3pm today (Monday August 31).

A singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer, Reagon has pursued a career that spans rock, blues, folk, punk and even opera.

In Abu Dhabi she will open NYUAD’s 2015/16 concert series with Parable of the Sower: The Concert Version, an operatic adaptation of Octavia E Butler’s sci-fi novel of the same name, which has attracted a cult following in the USA.

Reagon, 51, is best known as the daughter of Cordell and Bernice Johnson Reagon, co-founders of the Civil Rights era Freedom Singers, and is the goddaughter of folk singer and activist Pete Seeger.

The NYUAD’s concert series continues on September 16 and 17 with a performance from the Kronos Quartet, a highly acclaimed string ensemble based in San Fransico, renowned for contemporary classical performances and re-imaginings of popular music.

Ticket details have been announced for the first time, and will go on sale on Wednesday September 2 at 3pm, from the NYUAD website
