Emirati director Mustafa Abbas’ latest short film, Sunset State, has been selected to appear in the Short Film Corner section of this year’s Cannes Film Festival, taking place from May 14 to 25. Abbas broke the news to fans on Facebook saying: “Dear friends, I am happy to inform you that my film Sunset State has been selected at the Cannes Film Festivals Short Film Corner. Thank you to a terrific cast and crew.”
Sunset State, which premiered at DIFF 2013, tells the story of two very different men, an American novelist and an Emirati student, with equally troubled pasts who find solace in each other’s life story. Abbas told The National: “Yes, the story has to do with life and death. It’s about two men who are suicidal. I would not say the movie is about suicide; I would say it’s about human beings and emotions running wild. The movie is not about death; it’s about life.”
