BTS will make history at this year’s Grammy Awards as the first K-pop group to perform at the annual ceremony in California on Sunday.

The group’s fans had been speculating about the band’s attendance for weeks, though confirmation from the Recording Academy only arrived on Thursday.

BTS will take part in a special segment called “Old Town Road All-Stars”, where they will perform with Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus, who collaborated for the smash hit “Old Town Road (Remix)” in 2019, Diplo, Mason Ramsey and “surprise guests”.

In August last year, the song set the record for being the longest running No 1 single in Billboard’s Hot 100, retaining its title for 19 weeks. It has been nominated for Record of the Year.

The academy also announced a second special segment for the event on Sunday – a tribute to Ken Ehrlich, who has been producing the award ceremony for 40 years and will step down this year. Musicians such as John Legend, Camila Cabello, Cyndi Lauper, Common, Misty Copeland and Gary Clark Jr will gather to perform “I Sing the Body Electric” from the film Fame.

Now in its 62nd year, the Grammy Award ceremony will be hosted by Alicia Keys.
