Dubai has been announced as the seventh host city for the mammoth Global Goal Live: The Possible Dream event, which is being hailed as one of the largest live broadcast events in history.

The event is a 10-hour, six-continent telecast on Saturday, September 26, organised by international advocacy organisation Global Citizen, and will call on governments, philanthropists and the private sector to provide the $350 billion (Dh1.28 trillion) needed annually to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. These goals include ending extreme poverty, reducing income equality and tackling climate change.

In essence, the Global Goal Live event will be a “Live Aid” style musical affair, with 10 hours worth of performances from the world's most famous musicians. There will also be policymakers and big name speakers.

Although the line-up for the Dubai event has not yet been revealed, if the first wave of performers already announced is anything to go by, the UAE is set for an influx of musical talent.

Acts that have already been confirmed as part of the event include Alicia Keys, Billie Eilish, Coldplay, Cyndi Lauper, D'banj, Eddie Vedder, EXO, Her, Janelle Monae, Lizzo, Metallica, Miley Cyrus, Muse, Ozuna, Ozzy Osbourne, Pharrell Williams, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Shawn Mendes, Tiwa Savage and Usher.

The announcement came as world leaders gathered in Davos, Switzerland, for the 50th annual meeting of the World Economic Forum.

Mohammed Al Gergawi, UAE Minister of Cabinet Affairs and the Future, joined Priyanka Chopra Jonas on stage to announce the news. The actress and activist is a Global Citizen ambassador.

Dubai joins other host cities that have already been announced, including New York, with a broadcast slated for Central Park, as well as in Lagos, Seoul, and soon-to-be announced cities in Europe and Central America.

Global Citizen has partnered with Teneo, the world’s leading chief executive advisory firm, for the global campaign. It aims to mobilise everyday citizens, corporations, governments and philanthropists to end inequality around the world.
